The Technical Science of Anodising Cast Aluminium

Anodising cast aluminium is widely acknowledged in metallurgy as one of the most challenging surface treatment processes. Unlike wrought alloys, cast aluminium components contain elevated silicon contents (such as in A380, A356, and ADC12), which are critical for fluid casting flows but pose significant challenges for electrolytic oxidation. In standard anodising, silicon particles do not dissolve, resulting in dark smut residues, uneven oxide film distribution, and compromised cosmetic finishes.

1. Silicon Distribution & Pre-Treatment

High silicon content aggregates at the grain boundaries. Our factories overcome this by utilizing advanced chemical desmutting agents (utilizing targeted hydrofluoric acid combinations) that chemically dissolve surface-exposed silicon, leaving a clean matrix for subsequent anodisation.

2. Micro-Porosity Control

Cast structures contain tiny pockets of gas porosity. During the acidic anodising bath, electrolytes can become trapped in these pores, causing subsequent "acid bleed-out" which ruins the surface coating. Our vacuum sealing and temperature-controlled rinsing processes neutralize these micro-voids entirely.

3. Precise Voltage & Temp Ramp

We utilize automated rectification profiles. By slowly ramping the voltage in the sulfuric acid bath and maintaining strict thermal control at 18-22°C (Type II Decorative) and 0-5°C (Type III Hard Anodising), we achieve uniform oxide layer growth up to 50+ microns on complex cast structures.

Ningbo Jiangbei XinYe Metal Works Co., Ltd. was founded in 1996 as a family business and until today is an owner-managed SME corporation. Strategically located in the Ningbo Jiangbei Industrial Zone, our facility is within a convenient 3-hour journey from Shanghai international airport via the Chinese high-speed train network.

Over the last 28 years, we have scaled our production infrastructure to cover a total footprint of 16,000 square meters of high-capacity production floor, with another 11,000 square meters of construction and expansion space. Today, our family consists of 130 highly specialized employees: 80 dedicated production experts and 50 cross-functional team members in product development, engineering, quality assurance, global logistics, and executive management.

What are your prices?
Our prices are subject to change depending on supply and other market factors. We will send you an updated price list after your company contacts us for further information.
Do you have a minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
Yes, we require all international orders to have an ongoing minimum order quantity. If you are looking to resell but in much smaller quantities, we recommend you check out our website for stock catalog parts.
Can you supply the relevant engineering documentation?
Yes, we provide comprehensive QA/QC documentation, including Certificates of Analysis / Conformance (CoA/CoC), material certificates, dimensional testing reports, salt-spray validation certificates, and Certificates of Origin for export logistics.
What is the average lead time?
For samples, the lead time is about 7 days. For mass production, the lead time is 20-30 days after receiving the deposit payment. The lead times become effective when (1) we have received your deposit, and (2) we have your final approval for your products. If our lead times do not work with your deadline, please discuss your requirements with your sales representative. In all cases, we will try to accommodate your needs.
What payment methods do you accept?
You can make the payment to our bank account, Western Union or PayPal: 30% deposit in advance, and 70% balance payable against the copy of the Bill of Lading (B/L).
What is the product warranty policy?
We warranty our materials and workmanship. Our commitment is to your satisfaction with our products. In warranty or not, it is the culture of our company to address and resolve all customer issues to everyone’s satisfaction. We offer a one-year warranty for products with manufacturing defects, starting from the date on the delivery note.
Do you guarantee safe and secure delivery of products?
Yes, we always use high-quality export packaging. We also use specialized hazard packing for dangerous goods and validated cold storage shippers for temperature-sensitive items. Specialist packaging and non-standard packing requirements may incur an additional charge.
How are shipping fees calculated?
The shipping cost depends on the method you choose to get the goods. Express is normally the quickest but also the most expensive way. Sea freight is the best solution for large quantities. Precise freight rates can only be calculated once we know the details of your order size, weight, and delivery method. Please contact us for further details.
